Backstory
Born into a Turkish family in Bursa as their second son, Mehmet would grow up with his brother, Fatih. He would have a rahter calm childhood in the outskirts of Bursa. For a fairly short period of time before the invasion, he would try to make rap music with his brother.
After the invasion, he would spend half a decade in one of the many Youth Camps. He would learn most of his English here. At first, he tried to reject the Combine rule. Once he turned eighteen, he would be sent to City Thirty Seven. During that time, City Thirty Seven wasn't the best place to live in, with most of the population living in tents and barracks made out of whatever they could find. During his two year long stay in City Thirty Seven, his views would slowly start to change. For now, he was just another guy trying to make a living.
He would traverse a couple more cities before ending up at Industrial Seventeen in mid-15 AE. By this point he had already stopped having thoughts against the regime, taking the Combine as reality, accepting it. However him accepting the Combine rule didn't mean he lived completely according to their rules. He would often try and scam other civillians in small, sometimes large, amounts to make his life easier and better.
His days in Industrial Seventeen would end in late-17 AE as he was relocated to Terminal Six, joining the former City Eight, District Two populace. He would be first be relocated to City Eight, District Two with the rest of the workforce. Once the workforce was relocated to District One, he would use whatever funds he had to open a shop, hoping to close off the lack of business right after the relocation.
His 'investment' would not succeed, or fail as he didn't make a fortunate out of his establishment, only making enough to keep his establishment running. He would join the Civil Medical Union during his stay in District One for unknown reasons. His employment in the Medical Union would end as he was fired shortly before being relocated back to District Two.
He would continue to have a slightly above average life back in District Two, getting to know many faces only for them eventually disappear. Despite the constant change of faces, he would continue to remember some people as if they were still in District Two. Not to mention, he would continue to run his shop, rebranding it to FarmStore after some time. He would sell fruits and juices, with the later addition of smoothies.
So far, City Eight was known for being one of the best cities to live in. As the end of 20AE slowly approached, the Japanese dream would start to fade away. First, it was the Department of Production secession, which made it impossible for City Eight to export or import anything, putting strains on it's economy. As the situation got worse, the administrator decided to put an end to the secession. As a result, he would leave the title of governor empty for some months in District Two. The district would only get worse as civil unrest increased and the district faced many power outages. In the middle of these events, a massive festival took place in the middle of District Two as 20AE ended and 21AE started. Shockingly, the festival would end with an attempted assassination on the administrator.
Finally, the administrator decided to bring a new governor to District Two. This would turn to something what many people call as a grave mistake nowadays, making Gebremedhin Amakalech governor of District Two. During his six month rule, the district would face countless events. Some of these events are the bombing of Warehouse Three, Rave of Eight, political debates, a famine, derailment of an import train, an infestation break, two economic crises, a major protest which he also joined and many more. There is also a saying that a man was also arrested by Civil Protection because they confused him with Mehmet Aydın.
During these hard times, many business would fail, including the business of his 'rival', the local newspaper, an all-favorite ramen shop, a bar renowned for hosting the 'Rave of Eight'. Surprisingly, four businesses would not fail and even grow during these times, one of them being FarmStore. Mehmet would manage to gather enough funds to move his establishment to a proper building thanks to the head doctor of Civil Medical Union of that time. Mostly unaffected by the events, Mehmet would continue to run his shop.
He would work and meet with many great and suspicious people over time, getting to meet with most of District Two. There are some people he remembers to this day. A man trying to make a deal with five apples, a woman who would be shocked at the taste of a slushie, a friendly and helpful lady from his lands involved in politics with a mysterious background, trapping of a highly panicked and unstable vortigaunt in his shop, a Chinese man who spoke about beating Civil Protection officers -which he reported shortly after-, a young Japanese man coming around every now and then, the officers who constantly tell him to keep the music down, an unemployed American who sat at the same seat everytime he visited and many, many more. He would always have a warm smile on his face, with his recognizable friendly voice. Despite his usual good will, there are some people who claim he sells his goods at two times their prices. Some even go as far as claiming that he increases his prices during economic crises and famines. He would also get robbed twice. Once when he still had his stand and once after moving into a building. In total, he would lose around a thousand tokens to these robberies.
Even before Amakalech's reign, Mehmet hated the Civil Workers' Union in District Two. He claimed they always delayed his stock orders and messed up rent payments. In a surprising move, he would join the Civil Workers' Union during the final days of Amakalech's reign. As Mehmet claims, he had enough with the Workers' Union and wanted to make it somewhat functional. About a month after, his employment in the Workers' Union would save it from complete dysfunction as others members of the Workers' Union stopped their work, some going as far as stealing supplies from the Workers' Union. Without management and any working members, Mehmet took on the task of keeping the Workers' Union running as best as he could. Although he didn't have access or clearance for many things, he tried his best.
As Amakalech's reign finally ended, came elections. Out of sheer luck, Mehmet became one of the candidates. He would actually try to run for the seat of Governor alongside two his friends. He would lose the elections but due to several reasons, the newly elected governor would come to him with an interesting proposal. Seat of Vice-Governor.
