Born in the summer of 1984 Jason Ignacio Perez was raised in the jungle of Inglewood, Los Angeles. He aspired to make money to help his mother with finances, thus sought out extreme methods of bringing the bread to the table. Perez found himself being groomed for gang life at the age of eleven; he participated in many of the gangs illicit activities, and was good at it...

In the beginning Perez was an example for his associates even going as far to impress the core leadership of the gang, including members of the Mexican Mafia. His 10 year reign of terror in Los Angeles lead to many murders conducted by himself or his influence over his associates. Perez participated in the homicide of 3 rival gang members from MS-13.
"The Barrio 18 first emerged as a small-time street gang in Los Angeles. While some accounts trace its origins to the late 1950s, the gang began to take its current form in the 1980s after splitting from the Clanton 14 gang. It earned particular notoriety for its role in riots in Los Angeles that followed the acquittal of the police who brutally beat Rodney King, an African-American motorist.

Originally, the group’s many cells, known as “cliques,” were the exclusive province of Mexican immigrants in Southern California and dominated neighborhoods such as MacArthur Park in the Koreatown part of central Los Angeles.

However, as other Latino nationalities joined the immigrant population, the Barrio 18 began to recruit members from various backgrounds, a development that would facilitate the group’s spread into other nations, particularly in Central America.

In the late 1990s, a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) task force and local law enforcement took down some of the Barrio 18’s foremost leaders. But this did not so much handicap the gang as give them another base from which to operate and recruit new members: federal prisons."

1996
Following the year of 1996 several years before the invasion; Perez was arrested for multiple homicides related to Los Angeles' gang wars. Perez was sentenced to life without parole in California's state penitentiary San Quintin. During his stay he was able to get in contact with fellow gang members that were arrested and sentenced prior. Jason was involved and indoctrinated into the Mexican Mafia (La EME) and eventually held the position as Barrio 18's 'Emero'.
