PUNISHMENT GUIDELINES

This thread provides some general guidelines on how punishments should be handed out:

Banning a player should always be the last resort; especially for hardbans. Always give verbal warnings where possible. You are not there to ban players; but to help them and teach them the rules to avoid future infractions. Avoid banning someone as much as you can. Tell players what they did wrong and how to correct that - although, that doesn’t always work, and it depends on what the player did. If you feel like it’s needed, SoftBan the player for a short amount of time. Although, if the player clearly knows what they’ve done and violated the server guidelines intentionally, you are free to be harsh towards them (In regards to punishment, not attitude, eg longer softban times). Minges are not welcome here and will only create drama and trouble.

Regardless of this, every situation is different, every player is different and every offense is different. You always have your own feeling on how long the ban should be, but when you are unsure, ask a fellow Staff Member or follow these guidelines.

Please use the following template when carrying out a SoftBan or HardBan on a player on the server (Square Brackets not included):
"[Offense] | [Offense] | [Offense] | [Ban Duration] | [Banning Staff Member]"

Example of a good ban reason:
“Attribute Whoring | Ignoring Staff Members | 2 Days | Aspect”

Example of a bad ban reason:
"https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Soy Boy"

What are SoftBans?
SoftBans are bans that do not prohibit a player's access to the server, but instead restrict certain features from them, such as animations, ooc chat usage, restricted use of characters, and other small, albeit noticeable things. The effect is mainly meant to be psychological to show the player that what they did was wrong. More often than not, these are the types of bans you will be handing out the most, if at all.

What are HardBans?
HardBans are essentially the standard bans that we all know - they completely restrict a player's access to a server. More often than not, when HardBans are handed out, they will be permanent. They are reserved for people who clearly have no intention of actually roleplaying on the server, people who cheat, exploit, and just cause trouble to other players through similar means.
