These are all the currently active Rules & Guidelines for the Half-Life 2 Roleplay Server. We acknowledge that reading and following a huge list of rules can be boring and annoying at times. For this, we tried to keep them as clear and short as possible. Unfortunately, due to the nature of some players with their intent to bypass these rules, if a member of the Administration Team feels like you shouldn't be doing something, please listen to them. If you disagree or have a problem with an action taken against you by a member of the Administration Team, please contact a Staff Manager.

SECTION 1: COMMON RULES
These are rules that are typically common within most Half-Life 2 Roleplay servers, and should be followed without question.
S1:01) DO NOT METAGAME
Metagaming is when you use information that you acquired Out-Of-Character (Discord, Steam, Teamspeak, Skype, etc), In-Character. Only current exception to this is when someone exposes you to IC information while you are able to have constant contact with them (eg Radio Contact).

S1:02) DO NOT POWERGAME
Powergaming is when you force your actions on other characters, aka not letting them react to your action (eg. /me approaches the man, snapping his neck).

S1:03) DO NOT FAILRP
FailRP is the act of roleplaying in an unrealistic manner given your character's situation. Examples may include not roleplaying your injuries, performing supernatural acts, or generally acting in an unrealistic manner depending on the circumstances.

If you are unsure whether what you are about to do is considered FailRP or not, please consult with a member of the Administration Team.

S1:04) DO NOT AVOID ROLEPLAY
Avoiding Roleplay means that, through a number of different ways, you avoid the roleplay situation that you are in by (for example) disconnecting, going AFK, etc.

S1:05) DO NOT MISUSE OR ABUSE TRUSTED PERMISSIONS
Misuse or abuse of trusted permissions means abusing things like flags, faction whitelists, etc. This also includes any donation rewards you may be given.

S1:06) DO NOT DISPLAY UNSERIOUS OR DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR.
This is a serious roleplay server. Please do not act in an unserious or disruptive behavior in any way, shape or form.

S1:07) DO NOT DISRESPECT PLAYERS OUT-OF-CHARACTER
Do not disrespect players in the OOC chat in any way, shape or form. If you have a problem with another player, take it to PMs or contact a member of the Administration Team.

S1:08) DO NOT MINGEGRAB
When picking up items, you must roleplay doing so if other characters are nearby. This rule mainly applies to stealing or taking something that you're not supposed to. You are always encouraged to roleplay picking up all items, however. This rule is not limited to items. It also includes using fabricators to fabricate items (this is mainly for when you're fabricating items that are not required in the current workshift, if you are in one).

SECTION 2: DISTINCT RULES
These are rules that may be more specific to Lancer's HL2RP server and are not guaranteed to be common to most other servers.
S2:01) DO NOT MIX IC WITH OOC
This is a game, and everyone you interact with is a real human behind the screen, playing a character in a different universe. Any negative (or other) interactions one of your characters you may have with another, in-character, should not be mirrored to the player out-of-character (or vice versa). Keep both separate at all times.

S2:02) DO NOT METABAIT
Metabaiting is when you intentionally expose others to important In-Character information, Out-Of-Character (through Discord, Steam, Teamspeak, Skype, etc). Only current exception to this is when you expose someone to IC information while they are able to have constant contact with you (eg Radio Contact).

S2:03) DO NOT STALL ROLEPLAY
Stalling Roleplay is when you (for example) argue in LOOC or OOC about the situation you are in if you do not like or approve of it. If you believe something is wrong, consult with a Member of the Administration Team after the situation has concluded.

S2:04) DO NOT MISUSE PERFORM COMMANDS
Misuse of Perform Commands is when you (for example) use the /mec or /itc commands when you are clearly visible to other people.

If you are unsure whether you should use close, medium or long range /me or /it, please consult with a member of the Administration Team.

S2:05) DO NOT CONNECT YOUR CHARACTERS
Connecting your Characters means that two (or more) characters that you own are connected with each other in some way, shape or form (Give each other items, tokens, information, etc). This also applies if your characters are connected by a proxy (ie another character), eg your character giving an item or information to someone else's character, and then that character giving that back to one of your other characters.

S2:06) DO NOT BACKSEAT ADMINISTRATE
Backseat Administrating is when someone has violated the community guidelines and instead of alerting a Member of the Administration Team, you take action yourself (eg. Going after and killing a minge).

This rule does not apply if the situation is actively harming roleplay (eg Someone RDMing players).

S2:07) YOU CANNOT USE GHOST WEAPONS OR ITEMS
A ghost weapon or item is an item which the character has roleplayed acquiring through a /me, but does not actually have it in-game (eg. /me leans down and searches the trash can. After a while, he pulls out an old pipe), unless a member of the Administration Team has allowed you to do this.

S2:08) YOU CANNOT VOID A SITUATION BY YOURSELF
In order for a situation to be voided, all involved parties must agree to it. A situation may be force-voided if a Senior Administrator or higher says so. A situation may also be force-unvoided/not voided if a Senior Administrator or higher says so.

S2:09) DO NOT OFFLINE RAID
Offline raiding is the act of attacking a base/outpost/container without its owner(s) being online on the server and on their character. This rule has three exceptions:
  1. This rule does not apply for objects that are not secured and do not require the use of physical force or a tool to acquire (eg unlocked containers, unlocked doors, items laying around, etc).
  2. This rule does not apply if the owner(s) of a base/outpost/container do not join the server for a month or longer.
  3. This rule does not apply if the container or location in question is generally accepted to be in a public area (eg a dumpster in the RDC).
For Combine-sided establishments, outposts, or citizen apartments, look at Section 2 Rule 10 of the Server Guidelines. If you are unsure if the action you are about to execute is considered an offline raid, please consult with a member of the Administration Team.

S2:10) A MINIMUM OF 2 CPS ARE REQUIRED BEFORE AN ATTACK
If you wish to carry out an attack against the Combine (mugging/attacking a CP or any other Combine faction, or stealing from a store/establishment/apartment) a minimum of 2 Civil Protection characters are required to be online. This rule has two exceptions:
  • This rule does not apply for objects that are not secured and do not require the use of physical force or a tool to acquire (eg unlocked containers, unlocked doors, items laying around, etc)
  • Any CPs involved in the perpetrator side of this attack/raid are not included in the count. For example, If there's 3 units on, and one orders the other to go unlawfully break into and steal from a store, only 1 unit will be considered in the count, requiring 1 extra unit to be on in order to proceed.
If you are unsure if the action you are about to execute is considered an attack against the Combine, please consult with a member of the Administration Team.

S2:11) THE CP-TO-CITIZEN RATIO IS 1:2
There have to be 2 citizens for every 1 Civil Protection officer. As a player with a CP character, if the ratio is not met, stay on a Non-CP character. Combine Factions such as Civil Workers' Union, Civil Medical Union & Interim Global Authority are included in the citizen count. Factions like Birds, Zombies and other non-human factions are not included in the citizen count.

This rule is exempt on special occasions like training, other events, or if given permission by an Administrator or above.

SECTION 3: ZERO-TOLERANCE RULES
While we try to keep bans as the absolute last resort in dealing with a situation, let alone permanent bans, there are certain rules on which we have a zero-tolerance policy, which will likely land you a complete server removal if broken.
S3:01) DO NOT (ATTEMPT TO) CREATE LOOPHOLES
Do not attempt to create Loopholes in the rules. Self explanatory. Use Common Sense. We have a zero-tolerance policy for rulelawyers.

S3:02) DO NOT ERP IN ANY CAPACITY
Roleplaying any NSFW actions of any kind inside the server is strictly prohibited. SFW romance roleplay is allowed, however (eg: kissing). If you are unsure whether or not your action is considered NSFW roleplay, please consult with a member of the Administration Team or Quality Control team.

S1:03) DO NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EXPLOITS & GLITCHES
Taking advantage of exploits and/or glitches means that you are aware of a certain exploit or glitch in the server and are intentionally using it to gain an advantage over other characters or players in any way, shape or form.

S1:04) DO NOT CHEAT/HACK
Self explanatory. Using external programs or scripts to gain an in-game advantage (ESP, bhop, aimbot, etc) in any way, shape, or form, is not tolerated.

These rules are not limited to what is specified above. The Administration Team may decide what is and is not against the rules using their interpretation and judgement. if you have any complaints about an administrator's decision, please contact a Staff Manager privately.

A new rule was added. This was common sense, but it's nice to have it in writing:

Following some feedback, the rules page has been re-organized and split into three distinct categories, for simplicity. No new rules have been added that have not already existed as 'common sense'.

The raiding rule has been reformatted to be clearer and has a new exception (changes highlighted).
