Introduction
Howdy, now this one feels a bit more easier to convey, as I've had experience with it plenty, so Greater Depth Atmosphere, or (GDA) for short since it'll be used a lot, is creating a immersive environment. This consistent of a few core things: ambience, building/props, actions and reactions, social environment.
So right off the bat we will look at the first two things, and not the last two to much in depth. The reason we want to look at ambience and building is because we want a new player or someone new coming into the genre to truly feel immersed. I also would like to add another suggestion here that I feel many servers lack here, introducing new people to the genre. Not everyone is a A-grade WoWRPER, hell I don't even put my six paragraph basics for WoW Emotes, it's a different genre, different style. Not everyone understands that coming in, it's just the fact, not every role player plays a game and reads the lore, maybe they did one or the other, but not usually both. So when they come into this chugged environment with no understanding, it does propose the question, how do you introduce them. In order to understand the architecture of a system of roleplay setting, you need to understand it. So before getting into the neat meat of this piece, please consider adding links to combined lore and explanation (Server lore+ HL2 lore or Hl2rp lore). Now getting out of this, let’s go to the actual bang of this topic. Building and Ambience. I feel the server is very lacking in mainly building, as ambience-well that’s map based, and little options are to fix that. Nor am I going to nitpick. But going into building, it feels very..bland. Now August, there’s a xenon sector in the sewers-yes there is, but a lot of people don’t even know what it’s purpose is, or what it is To begin with, and that’s only one section. Past the main area, I don’t know what props are primarily player built or map, past checkpoints. My suggestion is to add more immersion to the sections of the map of the Outlandish area (Train station and such) making it more interesting, and the city. I won’t get into apartments, or stores as that’s a whole another concept. But I feel the city should have more light, perhaps to reflect this environment, I will admit I haven’t read the lore of the server so say past it being the most tech-something city, but maybe reflect its social status. If it is more oppressive, make it more unkempt, and uncared for, if it’s maybe average-add some more interaction to it, or maybe it’s superb! I think places like the alley ways, and the fountain-they just feel bland when you are walking essentially in circles, again and again. Maybe there can be remnants of people having been around these locations, or maybe small RP spots built. The abandoned building is a exception to a extent, but maybe add broken down furniture, flipped and destroyed. So forth, my point is the map lacks some more elements of immersion, of course I’m not saying go overboard or it doesn’t exist. I truly believe more however can be added to make the map more brightened and standing out, instead of this CP force field hell, where only the main plaza received much attention past player built sections.
Why?
Im suggesting this as a whole to create a more RP immersing environment, of course there is always only so much you can do, but to do better is to always create more uniqueness.
