Yoshihiro Katayama 片山義弘
Bureaucrat Extraordinaire
ORS, OPC, OC

Introduction

A true bureaucrat, he strives to reach the top of the office in all respects. He seeks authority and power over others to sate his own inadequacies. Even when an Alien race destroys everything he's ever known he sees the parallels between the old governance and this one, he sees canals in which he can gain power. He hopes to reach the point where he can have luxuries and stand above the rest. However, he is not a man without compassion merely one who's never had the chance to show it and thus it's locked away.

Backstory

Yoshihiro served as head of the management office within the secretariat division for the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communication. He dealt with personnel matters and reported quite often to the minister himself directly. His job was, in a few words, the highest amount of activity with very little actually happening. He received a rather large paycheck for his wages and could most of the time be found in his office logging meaningless happenings and writing reports on staff that would never be fired. It was an office that every one new was completely useless, but at the same time were well aware that trying to touch it may end with their dismissal.

In 2000 Yoshihiro was promoted by the oblivious minister to Director-General of the Secretariat Division, and for a year he enjoyed the perks of reach the top. Nice food, nice house, very nice car and authority over hundreds if not thousands of workers. He was leaving the dream of a Government Bureaucrat until a year passed and that all faded away. He was in his finely decorated office, complete with an original Japanese Katana on the wall, walls made of the finest wood money can buy and a desk so shiny you could see your reflection's reflection in it. He had been doing some administrative work when he heard booming, he turned out, hoping to see a fine clear sky but what he saw was beyond his comprehension.

Ships of indeterminate origin, almost living in their appearance flew across the skyline of the city in their tens and hundreds firing orbs of dark energy. The umping he heard were giant tripod-like creatures who staggered tall, through the wide roads firing at military vehicles. He took no more time to look at he ran for the nearest place he could hide, the best place is the closet on his floor, running in and falling to the ground he cowered. For hours, he couldn't count them, he sat there, until eventually the sounds stopped and were replaced with a new one. The elevator. He realised, someone must have survived perhaps they'd be fine and the military was coming to save him. As he ran for the elevator with his hope being all he had left he stood in front of the door, the number steadily going up, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14. As it hit 15 the sound stopped and it had reached his floor. He prepared himself to greet Japanese men of the military with thanks and gratitude but no man left that elevator. Figures of metal and a strange orange material stood there 9 feet tall, other-worldly machines. Without hesitation one stepped forward and cracked his head with a gun and all was black.

He woke up to a world very different but in some ways similar to what he once knew.
